Some finishing touches I've added to my gear lately are some portable reliquaries. A couple go with my fourteenth century impressions and one goes with my late Templar guise, which I shall be reprising in July. Warriors sometimes went into battle wearing relics around their necks: William the Conqueror did at Hastings, and Ulrich von Jungingen did at Tannenburg. So I thought I'd add some examples to my impressions. My reliquaries contain left to right: a thorn from the Crown of Thorns; a piece of the Cross (this one goes with my late Lazarite persona, hence the shield at the centre of the medallion); and a larger fragment of the Cross. The last one goes with my late Templar persona, and its shape is based on an original Byzantine cross that I have in my collection. Well, I hope you like them and I think they'll draw a lot of interest. Attachments:

As it turns out I am working on something similar. I am working on a pair of matching Pater Noster beads for the Dame Latitia and myself. They are supposed to be a gift from one of the various bishops close to us. I'll be doing some research to find a name I can give this Bishop, whereas I want it to be a real person. They have gold crosses and pearl beads with silk tassles.

Well it's been a couple of weeks since I've been able to get near my computer. It's been all go lately. My late Lazarite persona is now complete, and I shall be playing him for the first time this weekend. It's a local church fete, which is lucky because I've got to do the night shift afterwards; but as I always say - sleep is for wimps! (lol). Les Routiers de Rouen have asked me to join their group, so I've got to get Wars of the Roses kit together as well now. My Dad has been asked to portray John Howard, Duke of Norfolk; and I'm playing one of his henchmen. I've decided not to go for full plate for this character. Instead I've opted for Coventry sallet, bevor, breastplate over mail haubergeon and jack, and gauntlets. My outfit is completed with tall riding boots, which are being made for me by Phil Fraser at the time of writing. My sallet is crowned with a panache of peacock feathers, and I've got my eye on a beq de corbin to really turn my adversaries' blood cold. In a fortnight's time I'll be doing another 'Meet the Templars' event up at Bosworth. Since the last show I've published a book about my character, Brian de Jay. This has been tremendous fun to write, and I've learned a lot about him in the process as I never approach any of my writing projects thinking that I know it all and have all the answers. It was only when sifting through the Parliamentary writs for the reign of King Edward I that a new interpretation of the evidence became clear to me, and so I decided to entitle my book 'The Wicked Templar; the Legend of Brian de Jay': for that is exactly what all the stories about him in my opinion have proved to be - just legends. The real person turned out to be a very different character.
