Arthur had Excalibur, and Roland had Durendal. My prized possession is my arming sword made for me by Roger Lankford. I named it Pareis (Norman French for Paradise) because of a legend of a sword that was forged at the gates of Paradise, with two dragons guarding the smithy (although I forget the reference). But I was wondering if any of your personas' swords had names; and what's the story behind them?

Sir Didymous has many blades and each have a name. I've always tought it bad luck to have an un-named weapons. My late 13th C war sword is named Omen. So called because those who have fought against it say it's bad news. My arming sword is named Bedevere in honor of the loyalty depicted by the knight of the same name in Arthurian legend. My Dress blade is named Lambton due to the Wyrm on it's hilt. It's a rather fanciful piece, but I took a great deal of time engraving the blade with the letters V,U,H,S,C,J,T,P,A,S,C,D. They stand for Vires, Urbanitas, Honos, Spez, Caritas, Justus, Temperantia, Prudentia, Animus Sumisus, Confidiere Deus. Strenght, Courtesy, Honor, Hope, Charity, Justice, Temperence, Prudence, Submisive Spirit (Humility), Faith in God. These are the virtus to which all knights of our order are sworn.

Good names. I've just ordered a two-handed great sword; and I'm now thinking of a suitable name for it.

Is Omen the sword you're wielding in your Avatar? What is its blade length?

Why yes it is. It's blade is just shy of 98cm. It's just shy because I had to round the tip a hair to meet the safety standards for the group. It realy is a beast of a sword, but it only weighs around 2.5 pounds. Since I have a hight advantage to most fighters, and particularly long arms, it allows me to reach out an touch someone.
The other specs are: Blade width: 4.5cm Blade thickness at tang: 4mm Guard width: 25.5cm Handle length (including guard and pommel): 29cm Overall lentgh: 128cm

when i get another sword,i'll name it, moses! because it will definately cut a swath through the people! I once had a pole axe named Moses, because it laid down the law. I gave that to Lord Detrich when he moved to East Liverpool. I heard that he still uses it to enforce his authority at the church.

I have a 'grotesque' mace with the head of a fourteenth century demon in bronze. I reckon I'll have to think up a suitable name for that.

I have two maces. One is intended to be a 2 hander, but at my size it's a hand and a half. It was made by Del Toro, a reenactment group that makes their own equipment and sells it at the fairs they're performing at. (I wish I had the shop to work in, that would be a great way for a troupe to raise revenue.) Anyhow, it's named Grond, after the mace of Morgoth from Tolkien's "Silmarillion". The other, recently retired due to battle damage, is named Windu. I just couldn't resist the Star-Wars pun of having a Mace-Windu in my collection.

Omen has been broken, but is in the process of being fixed. I'm not sure if I should re-name him. I've heard that when swords were reforged they were often re-named. Any thoughts? Attachments:

when i was a young boy and my uncle and my cousin made me my very first sword and its name is slimay and i always got to use it when my uncle and i would always get to fight together. Then it was on a Christmas day when my family gave me my last prescient and i was so happy that I got it and it was my seconded sword that i got. The name that I gave it is Justin it was named After my uncle. Why I gave it that name was because I could not think of a name to give it because when I was little my uncle was my favorite person to be with. My thried sword that i have is the last sword that I got I got that sword when I turned 14 years old and that name of the sword is ludo that where i got the name from was out of the movie Labyrinth it is a good movie to which. So these are the names of the three swords that i have.

Since your sword is being re-forged, and will arise again from the fiery furnace, what d'you think of the name Phoenix?

Unfortunatly the reforge didn't take an it had to be shortened about 5 inches (12.7 cm). I will therefore be calling it Monstrum Vegrandis (LIttle Omen).
